Artist Statement: I feel like my best photos come from when I am traveling whether it is a small road trip outside of town for a day, or a long vacation to a faraway place. They come from times when I have the opportunity to be completely intuitive with my camera and also my car. When I am able to drive out into nowhere and explore freely without the bother of time and schedules, it ignites a creative spark in me that I am unable to get at any other time. This feeds into whatever I am doing at the time, which is most likely appreciating wherever I am with a camera. This is the release that I try to recapture at every opportunity. It creates images that create a place in my memory that I fall in love with and strive to return to and explore more. In this way, my photos also capture chapters in my life. After doing some post-processing work, a title will eventually scream its way to the front of my head and only then am I able to see the photo present itself in its finished state.

About the Artist: Having never seen farther west than Austin, TX, my friend offered up the passenger seat in the car he was to bring back to his sister in Sitka, Alaska. We were both in Nacogdoches, TX and it was my graduating semester so I figured what better way to celebrate receiving a Master's than to take a three-week road trip up to Alaska seeing sights neither of us had ever seen before. For the first time in my life, I saw the Rocky Mountains, the desert southwest, the Pacific Northwest, the Pacific Coast, Canada and Alaska, and I also had a new Canon Digital Rebel to break me into photography, still a new hobby at the time.

Upon returning, I felt compelled to pack up and move somewhere to the southwest. I eventually figured that with a web design background that Phoenix would be a good place to start looking. On November 1st of 2004 I packed up my apartment into a U-Haul and moved west. I instantly felt like I had come home and once I was settled in, met the love of my life and together we head out into the mountains and on any road trips and hikes we can.
