ARTIST STATEMENT: "My art is in celebration and rememberance of those who left beautiful architecture for future generations to enjoy." Modesto has been drawing ever since he can remember. He came from a creative family where his great uncle was the foremost Architect of Puerto Rico and his father had done extensive commercial sign painting. Modesto won his first art competition when he was 8 years old. He has spent the last 18 years as an Architect/Designer in which his art was for other organizations while working for private architectural firms and for the Federal Government. Most of his art was created using pencil drawings and pen & inks. He rendered architectural subjects primarily using oil pastels, color pencils, or airbrush. His rendering of the Bob Hope Theater of Performing Arts, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX with rendering of Bob Hope, received highest aclaim from the U.S. Air Force when it was presented to Bob Hope on national TV in 1984. Now he is combining his love for drawing and his passion for travel to create his collections of Pen and Inks and Watercolors. His artwork primarily reflects architectural subjects where he has had the opportunity to travel and see each site in person. Each image he draws comes from his partner and wife, Donna Corless, who photographs their travels. He is inpired by ancient architecture, geometric lines and shapes, as well as color. His creative talents extend beyond the canvas to three dimensional art forms in furniture and wall decor designs.
